Lost in Translation

I´m here in the Dominican Republic, and all I can think about is the fact that my luggage probably wont close on my way home next Saturday. I´ve brought about 9 pairs of shoes and a tonne of clothes... my luggage is bursting.

Oh yeah, did I tell you that I was going to be here in the Dominican? It´s beautiful, but people here are convinced that I am lying when I say that I am Canadian. They don´t believe me when I say that I don´t speak Spanish and one guy today even yelled at me for pretending that I´m NOT Latina. I guess no one ever told these people that not all Canadians are blonde, and that just because I have black hair, doesn´t mean that I´m Latina for God´s sake!

Okay, so sorry about that rant. I just wanted to let you know that it´s not all sand, sun and fun here in the D-R and that I wont be posting anything on P&P till next week. Also, since I´m on vacation, I don´t have my laptop with me and couldn´t post a picture from these terrible computers here in the Dominican. I hope you´ll be content with just this update.

Flying High

On my way home from Auckland New Zealand, I was absolutely mesmerized by the Singapore Flight Crew that was passing through the airport. The Singapore Girls, as the flight attendants are called, were every bit as enchanting as they are in the Singapore Airlines advertising campaigns, if not more. I couldn't get enough of the beautiful Batik motif, which has tiny paisley-esque shapes incorporated into the design.

The flight crew wears uniforms designed by French couturier Pierre Balmain, and with just a minor collar change in 1974, the uniforms have been the same since 1968. Singapore Airlines was a part of Malaysian Singapore Airlines until 1972, and the newly formed Singapore Airlines kept the Balmain design.

The pictures of the Singapore Girls are from Wallpaper* and really don't do the pattern any justice, and definitely don't show the amazing fit of these uniforms. Seriously, I found the Singapore Girls to be so well fitted into their sarongs (which makes sense since they have a minimum of two fittings with the airline's in-house tailor) that I couldn't look away from the tiny waists, shapely hips and exposed collar bones.

You should see the uniform I have to wear when I am working for Princess, I always have a hard time finding a size 3 blazer to match my size 5 hips. In fact, now that I've thought about it, here is an actual picture of me and Kristin in the white uniform, as compared with the lovely ladies above.

I know, No contest.

Paisley on the Plane

Just last year alone, I took 34 separate flights.  One thing that I've learned from all this traveling has been to pack like a magician... making sure that I pack absolutely EVERYTHING in my closet.

Now imagine my stress and fury the first time I lost my luggage. Believe you me, it wasn't a pretty picture, especially since I wasn't sure if my luggage was properly tagged. Never one to leave with a lesson unlearned, I soon realized that my luggage must, MUST have the very best tags. Tags like these beautiful Paisley ones on the left are exactly the type I had in mind.  Just hit up Good Things and you'll soon be the proud owner of a chic luggage accessory in no time.

The only problem now is that all your other travel items must be just as posh... Imagine how embarrassed I would feel if during a routine baggage search my toiletries were left exposed in plain zip lock bags?  I cringe at the thought, and so I always ensure that my baggied items are always encased in a gorgeous paisley cosmetic bag like the one by Fresh Ink.

Now I'll be sure to post when I find just the right paisley printed luggage.
