I can't breathe. When I try, it hurts like crazy!
I'm having a love/hate relationship with karate right now. I'm loving the intense workouts, and hating the day-after pain. Since I've taken a year off from competing to be able to travel, I've been missing out on the intense competition training that I used to do daily.
When traveling, I usually hit the gym and do some extra ab work as well, but now that I've jumped straight into a full month of no traveling or contracts, I've been training with little Sara, my karate club's latest competition protege.
I think we did 800 sit-ups, in addition to an hour of lunge punches and another hour of fighting. Sara kicks really hard, and though we call her Lil' Sara, there is nothing little about those round-house kicks of hers. My ribs feel like they're broken and my face is a little swollen. Gosh, I see why I find it difficult to get people to understand why I love karate so much.
To treat ourselves afterward, we ran to catch a flick, and saw Harold and Roldie Escape from G-Bay, again. I love that Christopher Meloni is also in the sequel, though I think that his role as Freakshow was fantastic and couldn't be beat. Also, seeing the movie again allowed me to notice things that I hadn't noticed the first time, such as the cute billowy shirt that Maria is wearing is Paisley patterned as is Harold's A-Hole shirt as they escape from Miami (please watch it to figure out what I'm talking about). Though I couldn't find the exact one he was wearing, I found this Robert Graham paisley shirt on neimanmarcus.com that looks almost exactly like Harold's shirt. Love it!
The only problem with the night was that Sara and I had a tough time going up stairs, sitting down, getting up, trying to sit down on the subway train without groaning from the pain in our behinds... trying to run down the stairs, trying to hover while peeing... trying not to feel silly as the guy in the subway train laughed at our evident difficulty in sitting down... I must say, we were looking pretty pathetic. We kept having to remind ourselves that tight buns and a six pack are worth this pain, and tomorrow we might even try and reward ourselves with another movie after class is done.
That is if I can make it out of there alive. I'm not so sure though, so this might be my last blog ever. Just giving you a heads up ;)
