Paisley Loves Amerykah!

I received a most fabulous gift for my birthday this year. My best friend gifted me with Erykah Badu tickets for this coming Monday and I for one, can't wait.

Ms. Badu is a lyrical genius, and this guy from thedailyvoice.com even calls her the 'Bjork of R&B'. Now I don't think I've mentioned this before, but I am absolutely obsessed with Bjork, OBSESSED, so I find his comparison to be right on the money!

Anyhow, I will report on the awesomeness of the actual concert on Monday, but today I just wanted to show you this beautiful paisley maxi dress by T-Bags that I could have worn to the concert had it been in August and not May. This dress needs teaming with flats, long beaded necklaces and funky, wooden bracelets, or better yet, just a big chunky purse.

I'm a big fan of this Michael Kors handbag, especially in this earthy brown colour.  

Eva Longoria pulls the look off flawlessly, right down to the sunglasses and the chunky designer purse. Bless the soul of her stylist.

You're Invited!

Did I tell you that I fell in love while I was away in Montreal? 

He's absolutely perfect, and though I've known him for quite some time now, it was only during this past trip that I realized the true intensity of my feelings for him. It might have had something to do with the French-Canadian accent, the ripped muscles, the hot tattoo and the short booty shorts he was sporting... Oh, I didn't tell you that I'm in love with George St. Pierre? Silly me, I must have been too busy drooling over the fleur de lis tattoo on his calf muscle.

I only wish that I could get him to realize that I exist, then this whole love thing would be so much easier.

I went to the Mars Venus Sports bar in Montreal to catch GSP's UFC match against Matt Serra, and boy was it ever fantastic. Seriously, when GSP came out, a hush fell over the massive space.

Grown men were giddy with excitement and every woman in the bar developed school girl crushes in a matter of seconds, actually who are we kidding, I'm sure most of the men did as well.

George schooled Matt Serra, and I left the bar feeling excited that I'm Canadian and that I have a third degree black belt. I'm hoping that the 12 years of karate training give me an added advantage in the "things that we have in common" category. That, plus the adorable outfit I'm sure to be wearing when I meet him, will definitely help.

I have already imagined myself wearing this gorgeous paisley inspired Gucci gown the next time that I'm accompanying him to a charity ball. What good is an intelligent, well-read wife if she can't look fabulous on the night of a gala event, right? 

So, just so you know, we're registered at Macy's, and the wedding is next June. I can't wait!

Paisley Dreams Please

I've been having some crazy dreams lately.

Last night I dreamt that I was in Australia again, but instead of the beautiful scenery and fantastic wildlife, I was being attacked by a skunk.  Does Australia even have skunks?

I don't know what's been going through my head lately, except that my every waking thought has been on Australia and now it seems that even my dreams have become peppered with thoughts of the land down under.

Naturally I took out my handy-dandy dream book and looked up skunks, only to learn that it predicts a social disappointment. Well that sucks. I wonder how that's going to play out?

You know what I did next?  I started to go through all my photos from the time that I was actually in Australia just to try and make myself feel better. It really helped, and I even found a picture of me in a dress that I think you'll really enjoy.

I was in Australia around Christmas time, and wore my dress (which I bought from some random store in Baltimore) to a Christmas shindig.  Thankfully I did not experience any social disappointments at that time, and instead received many compliments.  You can find almost the same dress here, and can wear it with black tights and super high heels for an edgier look, or you can just wear it sans tights and soften the look up with some gold jewellery.

Now I'm off to get a good nights rest, so that I can tackle any social disappointments that are supposedly coming my way tomorrow. Wish me luck! 

 

Tight Space

Remember my awesome tan that I was gloating about just a week ago? Well now it's doing this awful reptile skin thing that I hate.  Seriously, I'm peeling all over, and my legs seem to be especially worse.

I've found that organic unrefined Shae butter is the absolute best thing for moisturizing peeling skin, and have been drowning my epidermis in the stuff.

But since I still have a few unsightly patches left on my legs, I thought it a good idea to wear some tights under my dress when I went out last night. My tights were a boring black, but I thought it would have been much more fun and interesting if the tights had been patterned.

I found these paisley tights on SockShop and would love to pair them with a gorgeous trapeze style dress like the one pictured on the right.

Then throw on a pair of  Mary Jane pumps like these and you're good to go.

Not only will this outfit hide the reptile legs, but it will also make an artsy statement that's sure to turn some heads.

Paisley Always Fits Right

I accidentally wore my sister's shoes today.  It was accidental because I thought they were my pair of black high heel boots, but instead what I wore were her identical ones to mine. 

I only figured it out after I'd left the house and found that I almost broke my ankle and that my feet were dying from swishing around in the too big pair.  You see, though they look identical, her's are one size bigger, and come in the wider variety. Later she tells me that they are even too big for her, but that they fit okay at the store when she bought them.

Now the whole point behind my story is that it drives me nuts when I find that something doesn't fit right. Do you know what I'm talking about?  It's when you buy something that fit alright in the fitting room, but when you actually wear it somewhere it's either too tight, too loose, bunches up or rips a seam and on and on...

I'm sure I wouldn't have this problem if I were wearing very expensive couture all the time.  Take this lovely paisley Gucci scarf dress for example, it seems to just flow off the model's body.  It's the perfect fit and clings just in the right spots, perfect for those awful days when I feel like I ate a mountain of Oreos and am doubting the state of my six pack.

What I love about the dress is that it can be worn as resort wear, or it can also be worn as a gown at a black tie/red carpet event.  Basically, it's the perfect dress.  Now it would be even more perfect if I could actually afford the dress, but that's a whole other story...

Ninjas Love Paisley Too

Karate uniforms are great. I love the way I feel in my freshly washed gi and can't resist kicking as soon as I have it on. 

I've been living in a gi for as long as I can remember (maybe about 12 years now) and I still put up with guys that insist I look too girly for them to believe that I have a black belt in karate.  What do they expect?  A boyish figure and bad taste in fashion?

Well boys, it's time to get your heads out of the gutter and notice the paisleys.  Girls can do everything and anything they want, and they can still manage to do it with style and grace. So here is the girliest dress I could find (it's by Bebe) and I'll juxtapose that with a picture of me in a gi.

Now bow to your Sensei :) 

Paisley Dazzlers

I can't walk today.  Seriously, I think I'm paralyzed from the waist down after that crazy cycle-fit class I did yesterday.  The good thing is that my legs look shapelier already after just one class and I'm now imagining long, toned legs in this killer pair of heels this summer. 

Mr. Manolo Blahnik himself designed this pretty pair and I would love them worn with this perfect little dress. 

I'm loving the navy of the dress playing with the blues of the shoe. Pair that with this Nancy Gonzalez turquoise clutch and you're good to go. 

The shoes could be worn to a summer get together or I would wear them out for dinner and drinks, but there is no way that those look comfortable for a night out dancing, no matter how many drinks you might have had.

True Blue Paisley

So the cute guy called. Remember? I met him at the wedding I went to, and we've made plans to meet for cocktails. Of course, right off the bat that's got me thinking as to what I'm going to wear.

I want to look sexy, yet demure. I'd like to give the air of a classy and intelligent young woman without looking overdone. What's a girl to do?

A smart girl does her research, that's what, and looks for the fairest dress of them all!

I've found a bunch so far, and when I found this gorgeous paisley one, I just had to share it with you.  I'm not quite sure if it's what I'll wear for my date, but it's still definitely a winner for any other occasion I might want to attend.

I am not usually a big fan of tube dresses,I happen to find them a bit boring and overplayed. That is until I saw this lovely gem of a dress from edressme and found myself strangely drawn to the soft swirls of the turquoise and blue.

I would be sure to pair it with some killer heels like these ones on the right. And though I happen to love the Carvela turquoise pumps from madaboutshoes.org, you can always go for simpler silver heels to match your jewellery.

Me Paisley, You Gingham

You know what?  Some people are just not meant to be.  Take, for instance, last Friday, that awful fated day, when I was set up on a blind date with what seemed to me like a martian from Mars. 

He was cute enough, a little shorter than I like, but still attractive and normal from what I could tell...  that is until he opened his mouth and spent the whole 30 minutes of our date talking about the massive amounts of money he made (ew, that's just scuzzy). Then he wouldn't let me get a sentence in edgewise, and when he did ask me a question, he looked as if he had zero interest in what I had to say... at least that's what I gathered as his eyes roamed the restaurant around me and landed on the pretty cocktail waitress. 

Needless to say, I won't be seeing him again, and he will most definitely NOT see me in this gorgeous paisley print mini-dress from the Neiman Marcus Single Collection. I'm saving this one for my date with Mr. George Clooney.  Cause you see, I've always been more into pinstripe than gingham.

I think I've been ripped off.  No, let me rephrase that, I know I've been ripped off and I'm mad.  Here's the story, I own the gorgeous silk paisley dress that we see here to our left, in fact on the right here is a photo of me wearing it.

I love my dress and other people seem to love my dress, but do I love the $160.00 that I paid for it?  No.  No I don't.  Specially not if I just found the same dress on the Pyramid Collection website for $69.99.  Not that I don't think that the dress was worth it, It's just that this is not the first time I've been ripped off by them. 

Now what good is having a blog if I can't rave and rant as I please?  So I'm going to do just that and let the public know that Pull of Queen St. East in the T.Dot is a rip off.  A big, fat, rip off. The end.
