Yesterday I attended Digin to Docs: Street Health Stories and The Interventionist with my friend Ram.
Great issues. fascinating topic and cool angle. Too bad that there were only about 30 people in the whole auditorium, and the final Q&A portion became a town hall meeting. I felt sorry for the panelists.
I really liked the NFB filmmaker in residence, Katerina Cizek, and I found her to be very interesting. I started imagining the life that she must lead and the projects that she probably likes to get involved with.
Me being the quirky fashion-lover that I am, I also came to the conclusion that she would look very pretty in this Escada Sport silk dress from Saks Fifth Ave. Kat was very pretty, and intelligent, and since she has even worked to change U.N. policies, I thought she would look great in this outfit were a dressier occasion to arise.
I hope this particularly documentary (about city of Toronto's attempt to bring a gentler approach to policing by partnering a psychiatric nurse with a police officer to respond to calls involving emotionally disturbed persons) does infact create awareness and sympathy for Toronto's emotionally disturbed people and can be used for all the purposes the filmmaker intended it to be.
I personally hope that the police+nurse project expands to all areas of Toronto, and would like to see more of Katerina Cizek's work in the future. I wish more people and more city politicians had taken the opportunity to look at the people living in the city, and attended the screening. More compassion and more understanding would definitely make Toronto a better place.
