Last night I found myself in a really deep, intense conversation with a great friend, which left me feeling happy and enlightened about life in general.
My friend Mikey is awesome. He's cool, funny, smart, successful and adorable. I've known him since 9th grade and though on paper we seem to have very little in common, we get along really well and always find a lot of things to talk about.
I think that two of us get along because we're perfectionists who don't believe in stepping on others to get ahead in life, and we both love to travel (heck, we even ran into each other in the Bahamas once, what are the odds?).
It helps that we can be just friends and can offer one another insight into each other's love lives. It's also really nice knowing that I'm so not Mikey's type, and I'll never have to worry about our friendship going weird on us.
Last night he helped me realize that everything is not always as it seems and that I should give people the benefit of a doubt. That it's okay to give second chances and to wear your heart on a sleeve, but that sometimes people really aren't all that good for you and that it's okay to distance yourself from negative influences in your life. You know, all the things that deep down you know inside, but sometimes just need spelled out to you by a good listener.
