Yay! Happy Persian New Year to me!!
And of course a very happy New Year to my Persian friends and family in Toronto who've all stayed up till about 2:00am. You see the Persian calendar is very precise about the very moment that the astronomical new year begins and It's celebrated on the day of the astronomical vernal equinox. For someone who lives in Toronto, this year the exact time of the Equinox falls on March 20, 2008 at 01:48:19 AM. The precise time of the New Year will be different for every country so that all Persians around the world can celebrate at the exact same time.
This means that since it's so late and I'm only surrounded by family, then celebrating in a new pair of chic pajamas is very tempting. Take a look at how awesome this Bedhead Aqua Paisley set from Mio Destino looks. I would love it in green as that's the colour my family usually wears to welcome the New Year.
The Persian New Year (we call it Norooz) has been celebrated for at least 3000 years and is the oldest and most significant National Holiday for Persians of all religions. So it's fair to say that it's a pretty big deal for us. I sometimes describe our Norooz celebrations to the way Christmas, Valentine's day, Easter and the regular New Years Eve all combined feels to my non Persian friends.
So happy Norooz to all!
hey! okay...you have to take a pic of my paisley pj's!! they'll add to the collection big time ;)
